Wireless Internet Service Provider
The Wireless Internet Service Provider System (WISP) provides services like location based content, Virtual Private Networking and Voice over IP. Isolated municipal ISPs and larger state-wide initiatives alike are tightly focused on wireless networking. WISPs come in hand where cable and digital subscriber lines are not available.
The Wireless Internet Service Provider System (WISP) is an integrated Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) system of connecting customers to the Internet. High-speed wireless data links are used to provide Internet access on a point-to-point and point-to-multipoint basis, for companies, governmental organizations, schools, universities and other institutions having Local Area Networks (LAN).
Typically, a WISP operates as a point to point connection and then backhaul to their radio towers. On the consumer's side, they will mount a small dish or antenna to the roof of their home and point it back to the WISP's nearest antenna site.
Wireless data links take place of dedicated leased lines where the leased line connection is not possible or too expensive. The WISP can be obtained from DHL as ready to install Base Station and CPE (Customer Premises Equipment). All necessary parts of the wireless links are available as well. DHL is supplying wireless equipment to customers and providing installation services all around the World since 2003.
